Airbrush Preparation

Suggestions

Pre Airbrush preparations

Our recommendations

* Make sure your skin is moisturized properly. The more supple your skin, the better the coverage and absorption will be. It is recommended that you exfoliate with a salt scrub or some other appropriate product the day before you come in for your airbrush tan. It is recommended that you shave the day before you tan. Removing loose, dead, dry skin cells that could prevent even application of sunless solution will improve AND extend your tanning results. * Before the airbrush tanning session, your skin should be clean and dry with no soap residue to interfere with your tanning experience. Avoid bar soap. * Do not apply deodorant or perfumes to skin prior to tanning. IF YOU DO, LET ME KNOW. It is recommended you remove makeup before the tanning process. Remove any jewelry during the airbrush process. * Also remember to bring dark colored, loose-fitting clothing to wear home. Do not wear nylon, silk or wool. * If you are tanning for the first time (pale skin), or if you feel you need to, you should apply a product over your entire body to lower your skin's pH level. We have the pH spray available for a $2.00 additional charge. It has been shown that a balanced pH level of skin may provide browner, more natural-looking color. Although the likelihood for an allergic reaction is small, a patch test is recommended for persons who have a known sensitivity to sunless products or the ingredients in them, including fragrances. Very fair skin types may require a follow-up airbrush application 12 to 24 hours later. After all sunless airbrush treatments, wait at least 6 to 8 hours if using standard Venetian or 2 to 4 hours for Venetian One product, before taking your water "rinse" shower to allow the DHA bronzer enough time to begin the reaction process. Prior to that shower AVOID water & DO NOT SWEAT!

Post Airbrush

Our recommendations

You may notice the DHA does not absorb evenly...do not worry that is not unexpected. If there are any 'dry' areas of skin, it may take longer for the bronzer to absorb. When you take the water shower, it will even out. What didn't absorb will rinse away. Remember, your first shower (at least 6 to 8 hours with most Venetian products and 1 to 2 hours with Venetian One) is to be WATER ONLY. When you are done, pat yourself dry gently...DO NOT RUB. Apply moisturizer generously. You can take a real shower afterward but remember to pat yourself dry and apply moisturizer AFTER EACH SHOWER. Keeping your skin moisturized is the best way to extend the airbrush tan as long as possible.

Things that cause fading

Our recommendations

Be aware of any "rubbing" that might cause the DHA bronzer to rub off before enough time to absorb has passed (i.e. hanging a purse on forearm or shoulder). When you wash your hands, make sure the water only contacts the palms of your hands and rub them gently together, patting them dry. Do not "wipe" mouth with a napkin, you could cause a white ring around your lips. Shaving will also cause fading-the more often you shave, the more often the skin is exfoliated. Face cleansers have exfoliating beads to remove dry skin cells and can cause fading. Ocean water, beach sand and pool water may make the color fade faster and uneven. Dial soap, liquid soaps with exfoliating beads, loofa sponges, pumice stones, wash cloths and anything else that might cause the skin to exfoliated will fade the tan before its time. Remember---pat-pat dry & moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!!! Your color may not fade evenly, but you can use a loofa or washcloth to fade the edges by GENTLY rubbing the more distinct lines. You may apply a tinted lotion if you choose to help keep the color as supple as possible during the fading process but be aware not all tinting is the same shade or hue. We may have a tinted lotion with light DHA available for purchase in the salon as well as products for touch ups. Please don't hesitate to call with any further questions you might have. We are happy to serve you! ***Please remember that having the DHA bronzer on your skin does NOT protect you from sunburn. You still need to use sunscreen liberally as recommended, reapplying every 25 to 30 minutes and 'listen' to your skin, if it seems too much sun, it usually is!

Airbrush Maintenance

Our recommendations

We recommend that after every five weeks of airbrush tanning, let your skin rest for 10 days. This allows you to completely lose your sunless tan periodically, which helps eliminate patchiness or uneven areas of wear. These areas are caused by normal contact with clothing and other surfaces, which cause unintended exfoliation. Healthy, moist skin will retain the results of your sunless tanning session longer. Sunless airbrush results will vary by individual. Medications and supplements may alter airbrush results. Using moisturizer can help to extend the life of an airbrush tan. Also, there are moisturizers that are available at our salon, with a light DHA bronzer in them to extend the look of a UV tan or an airbrush tan. The DHA bronzing will help to extend the tan and reduce uneven wear and patchiness.
